Hey Mr. Dj; put a record on!!
During these years at U, I think I’ve talked quite enough about my big wish for meeting Bono; which is one of my favourite famous people, not as a musician only but a human being. Nevertheless, there is a very successful woman in showbiz that always surprises us with her different and very stylish fashion and of course her performances and new songs. I’m talking about the incomparable Madonna. My perfect way to meet her would be going with her to one of her concerts, I mean, be there in the pre, while, and post (which means party I think!) During she is in her singing and dancing rehearsals, wardrobe testing, make up session, etc I’d talk to know where she gets the inspiration from in order to do those kinds of performances, I’d take advantage of the time spent with her to know how she keeps herself that fit, the kind of routine, etc. There is another thing that comes to my mind; which is what her daughter Lourdes said time ago; that she felt ashamed of the way her mother’s perform on the stage (making reference to the way she dance and to that lesbian behaviour she sometimes has). I’d like to know her opinion and how she feels about it. In my opinion, these shouldn’t be unimportant words for a mother who has devoted her life to lights and flashes. I’m sure that Madonna has an interesting and sometimes kind of bizarre way of living that I’d like to be part of just for a while.

I`d wish it was Summertime
Have you noticed how beautiful Chile is? please, don’t think I’m being cheesy, because it`s true!, and we all know it...We can find the most beautiful landscapes of the desert in the North as well as all the lakes, volcanos, green areas and rain forests in the South, going through all the beaches along the coast. If I had to write about a nice place in Chile, I`d definitely do it about Pichilemu, which is a fine place located in Región del Libertador Bernardo O`Higgins by the coast, It is a small city and at the same time a good place to spend summer time, actually my family and I go every year to visit my grandaddy who lives there. What I enjoy the most from Pichilemu are its wonderful beaches, which are huge and well known for its enormeous waves that are surfed by many surfers (very logical...), men and women; most of them from different nationalities. Because of this, people can take advantage and practice English, what is what I usually do . My favourite beach is called Punta de Lobos, which is one of the biggest. I like it because it is never full of people and nobody bothers you when you`re having a sunbathing, and also you can enjoy the waves your way, but always being carefull. Around 7 o`clock many people have walks along the beach and wait until the sun set.
This is a very relaxing place, it`s not like all those crowded coastal towns. Go and visit it, and of course, try surfing!

Billy buried Kes

A careless and absent mother and a nasty and grumpy brother were nothing but enough reasons for this boy to feel let dowm day by day. Since the moment he started training Kes, he felt that was what had brought him to life. He enjoyed it; he did it passionately, and was always interested in learning more and more about him. He had found a real motivation in life which meant that a living creature belonged to him, and it was to care about, and to devote time to. The day he found it dead, Billy felt devastated, and then he buried it with dignity. Undoubtedly, it was one of the saddest episodes that this boy had had to face ever.
Nevertheless, as time went by, Billy grew up knowing that he was really good at something, this is why he started behaving as a responsible sudent, not as a problematic one anymore. He didn’t need the support of his family to make progress; he had his teacher, who believed in him and in his capacities. However, there was something missing in his life, something that he meant to live for.
One day, his teacher got very good news for him. In a small town near there, there was an old man who, as well as Billy, had learned how to train hawks since very little, he had done it all his life, and he had also taugh his son. They both lived in a farm surrounded by hawks, and there were 20 of them! The man was very old and sick, that is why they needed someone who helped his son. As soon as Billy got there, he was proved, both men decided that he was the perfect one to fulfil the task. Finally, Billy stayed living in the farm, he studdied and trained the hawks, which was his most loved hobbie ever, and on top that, he found a person who loved him and cared about him as a father cares about his son, and as him cared about Kes.

As part of our experience
The work we have been doing with UCHILE students has been very interesting for me because it is what best gets close to what we have been doing at school in terms of correction.
Since UCHILE students have more or less the same English level from the children in the school I’m working in, it has been useful for me to realize what the mistakes that students in a pre intermediate (I’d dare to say) often make. Generally, they have lots of ideas, and they just write them down and do not care much about their grammar, either the accuracy in the words they use. The only main difference is that students do not do much writing at school, so that it becomes very challenging to write a text for them, however they are very willing to face English, and try to do their best.

A BLOG RATER? ...take a look at this one.
As many of all (this) these ways of on line communication, blogs (are) were created to express yourself, tell about your interests, what are you spending your time in, show points of view…WHATEVER! (And then, get) in order get to know you more. That’s why; I think these should represent how the person really is in terms of (his/her) (x) way of writing, the colours he/she uses, the features chosen, etc. By this, I could tell that the blog: “I’m so weird…but I’m happy” by Javiera, is not the way she is, or at least, (like) the way I see her almost daily. But it has lots of good things to look at, beginning by Javy`s profile.
I think the design ought to be changed, as well as the colours in order to look more (brightly) brighter and attractive. However, the posts are all very good and very interesting, and almost all of them have a picture to illustrate what she is talking about, which is very good and catching for people who visit it.
As I said before, one of the posts’ purposes is showing author’s points of view. In this case, this blog has been very helpful because I’ve had the chance to know what Javiera thinks about different issues, which is always positive in order to have an approach to the person.

Eat, drunk (wvf) and dance
In (w prep.) the 18 of September the (x) people of (w prep.)Chile normally celebrate (some thing about x) the independence or something like that. No (wf) really “el 18” is a moment of the year very special (wo), you can eat meat and drink alcohol, all as you can (w expression), with your family and your friends. Ok this is all, folks get (ww) fun.

Summary on Kes
This is the story about a fifteen year old boy, named Billy, who, after being perseverant and patient enough, trains a hawk which is nameD "Kes" by the boy. His life is very taugh in terms of relationships and sucess. He had to struggle against his disfunctional family(composed by his mother, and Jud, his elder brother only because the father has left long ago), verbal violence and abuse, and poverty.
Billy worked as a newspaper boy and attended school, however, there's no one who supports him. One day, he walked across a yard, and found a hawk nest up on a tree, and keeps the little hawk with him, as long as he has it, he becomes even more interested in the animal and the relationship between them, as he started training him, which becomes the aim in his life that satifies him the most.

Learning english (c.) With my t-shirt
Learning English
My experience learning English begins when I was eleven years old, I bought a game of Nintendo (wo.) Entertainment System (NES) called dragon warrior (c.), a game that was the first famous role playing game. The game was awful but I’m very obsessive, I fished (sp.) this game, but the game (nn.) was full of English dialogs, I translate (wvt.) all the game with help from (with the help of )a dictionary and my brother.
In (wprep.) the school I never learn (wvt.) English, in my awful college (ww.) only teach (wvt.) me to ask about the time and the classic “this is the window, this is the door” by three years. By (wprep.) the other hand I translate (wvt.) song and games.
Really (ww.), in the university I learn (wvt.) so much (ww.) than in my school, because the class is better than the school. The “T- Shirts” (it’s a joke) teachers Simon and Carroza, are good teachers, and in the class program teach (who?) things very useful (wo.). Also I talk in English with my classmates about daily thing (sm.), means (sm.) transport, films, music, books, etc. I like very much the English class.
That’s all folks, and study English (sm.) is very useful, to work, study, reed (sp.) more things, to meet people etc, etc.
Have fun, folks
POSTED BY RMONTES AT 16:37
The main mistake that Rodrigo has made this time is that he has switched verbal tenses. As you can see in the post, he starts telling in past, and then switches to present.
The other mistakes, such as word order, spelling, and accuracy in prepositions, are little things (for the moment), that he’ll improve as long as he keeps writing.
So far, he has done a great job!...keep improving your writing!

Valeria's record feedback
Viva Chile!!!
For me the (nn.) Fiestas Patrias more that to have a meaning patriotism and "chilenidad", since this must be for many persons (w. sentence o.), it is rather a moment to share with the family and the (nn.) friends,(p.)
beside (s. c.) being a moment to eat delicious things (try to put a more accurate word) and much, really very much (w. sentence. o.) and if it is possible to go out to some place whit (sp.) the family to eat or simply to enjoy the landscape, the beach, the mountains or simply the O'higgins park, any place is good to pass (ww.) a good moment and to share.
The more important things (wf.)that I make in the Fiestas Patrias is (sm.) prepare traditional Chilean food like Empanadas, Pastel de choclo, Choripanes, Pajaritos and the better Pebre y Chancho en piedra for accompany (ww. (very translated)) and also to listen and to sing Chilean music ... and if someone encourages also to dance a good “Pie of Cueca”.
Between what I was doing before for 18 (sm. “the 18th”) and what I do now there is no great difference because as already I (wo.) said generally I pass (ww.) it with my family, but that (nn.) yes (if) (sm.) has changed is that now some (nn.) I am going to see to (nn.) my boyfriend and his family (sm.) Concepción, since I will do it this year.
I cannot remember (sm.) 18 that (nn.) I like more (ww.) because of (nn.) all I have (wvt.) (sm.) pretty recollections…

What I've seen so far from Valeria’s posts, is that since what she mainly does when writing is translating, she just writes her ideas as it first springs to mind, that’s why her writing is most of the time so wordy. Although her points are easy to get, she needs to care more about the verb tenses and some forms.
Since writing is a process, I’m sure that if she keeps trying, but being aware of her mistakes and reflecting on what needs to be done, she’ll really improve this language skill.

Just like in the previous blog checking, she keeps making the same mistakes; wrong words, word order, wrong forms, etc. I think that she needs to focus on how careful she is at the moment of writing; be aware of the verbal tenses, and the creation of precise sentences with the words in their right form.
About Rodrigo, I have to say that I’m really impressed. From his previous post so far, I’ve seen a remarkable improvement...good for him! There are a few grammar mistakes and something that seems very much translated for me. But it’s been a really good piece of writing. Despite the entire checking thing, it was really funny to read his post, I imagined a totally relaxed and easy going person...
Isn’t it good to have fun through a learning tool? I have to admit that I really enjoy doing this, and there is no doubt for me that both students as and me as well, are going to improve our writing.

First Checking
After reading both Rodrigo’s and Valeria’s post, I’ve realized that both of them make different kinds of mistakes.
On one hand, Rodrigo knows what he wants to write, and just write it. This is why he doesn’t care much about items such as: capitalization and the forms of some nouns and verbs as well. But despite all this, it is easy to follows his ideas, and get what he means. It seemed to me that whenever he goes abroad (to an English speaking country, of course) he won’t have that fear to dare to speak English, and by the way he expresses himself, he will be understood.
On the other hand, Valeria’s piece of writing was a bit more complicated to check because her ideas or sentences were quite longer, and sometimes her ideas were difficult to follow. As Rodrigo, she also knows what she wants to say, but she adds many elements; the good thing is that she is very willing to use the language. Most of the mistakes I found were mainly wrong forms in adjectives, nouns, and verbs.
Even though in both cases, students happen to know how structures are, they tend to translate their ideas a lot. However, if they keep working, they can keep going on the right track.

Here we go again...
We all know that one of the taks that we'll have as future teachers, is checking and therefore, grading. Unfortunatelly, that is how the "measuring systems" works in our Education field. Numbers say everything, how good or bad a student is, for most of them, important issues in their lives depend on their marks and their progress.
If I could make a change, I'd assess students rather than grading them. I mean, What are numbers for?...I'd give more comments and inputs instead of figures. In order to be aware of how a student is making progress, we have to know that assessing is a process, a way that needs assistance as well as feedback and motivation. It is about making people know and feel that they can improve on their work.
I'm totally thinking beyond what this task means, but this is what it has invited me for, to keep knowing how others learn, work and become everytime better at what they are doing, at writing in this case...with my help of course, as my teachers have done with me.

The task of keeping a blog...
Even though writing is one of the more complex skills, it helps a lot to express our ideas and become others aware of what our thoughts are by our writing style. The more we write, the more people can have an approach to our minds. This is why; the usage of blogs has been a very simple and useful tool for the ones who enjoy, or maybe, needed to express their thoughts in one way or another, because that is what they are for. People are able to write about whatever they want!
Since each one of us is the owner of one of this websites (or maybe more than one), we can choose if it is going to be turned into either an informal or formal style. It depends on us and what we are going to write about. In our case, our pieces of writing have been very different one from the other, which has been a great advantage. It has been easier to organise our ideas, and has let us write in a free and informal way, it does not mean that it has been a messed up way of writing.
For example, writing about our least favourite subject at school, allowed us to put all kinds of adjectives. It was a more relaxed writing. In contrast, when we wrote about the two books, especially about Rumble Fish, it demanded us more thinking in terms of the adjectives, these had to be more accurate according to the theme. However, we did not even notice how little by little our posts improved in terms of writing style, it became easier to come up with ideas and get the connection between them.
Every time a person uploads a post, their contacts have the opportunity to write comments about it. One of the “disadvantages” that this having-a-blog-process has, I mean, as a learning tool for our class, is that comments should be on the posts, in order to contrast ideas, and also we had to be more aware about our grammar. Nevertheless we enriched our vocabulary by the new words and expressions used by our classmates.
As a conclusion, since most young people have already gotten rid of this tech fear, it is good to encourage them to make use of these technological tools in order to improve their writing, and make the most of their learning process, by posting, making comments, therefore reflecting, and sharing their points of view with others.

What's in common between The Commitments and Rumble Fish?
In all the novels we have read up to now, the social class issue is included, although it might be not totally explicit, but the character’s stories always give us clues about how it is like. In this case, The Commitments as well as Rumble Fish show through their character`s life experiences, how social classes were represented. Topics like jobs, Education, and language are real examples that help us to develop that issue.
In The Commitments, the main character’s family background was supported by members who all of them had an occupation. The father worked, therefore earned some money to cover the main needs for their everyday living. The other characters; such as Declan Cuffe, Outspan, Derek; and Bernie; one of the chorists had also her own job in order to be able to make a living, although it did not seem to be good enough for her, In my opinion, she was not well paid. However, in Rumble Fish, since the mother had left both Rusty James and The Motorcycle Boy, and the father was an unemployed man, who devoted himself to be an alcoholic and spend most of his time being in the bar, drinking, being totally careless about their children, he was not able at all to provide what they need to grow up as they should.
In spite of the standard of living that the main character; Rusty James and his family had, the working class was represented by their surroundings. There was a school, which was the one where Rusty James and his friend Steve went to; and there were also a pub, where all the "buddies" met to throw pool. Both places were crucial for them. Rusty James hated school; he even was spelt from it because of his personality and actions, the opposite to his brother, who was spelt because he was too smart. Besides, all guys who lived near them, and went to the same school, were always involved in rumbles, as well as Rusty James. None of them was a positive leader.
The way the characters spoke in The Commitments, depicted a non satisfactory level of Education; they used lots of swear word. The vocabulary was very informal. Furthermore, the reading became a bit weird because many words were written the way they are spoken. Nevertheless, they knew what level they belonged to because they called themselves: “The hardest working band”.
All in all, both storied showed that it wasn’t that simple to handle making a living in the place and in the time where they took place. This was due not because of the cost of living but the working chances they had, and their interests and goals they wanted to achieve in life.

LIVE MARILYN

Since I couldn’t make my mind up about what album cover choose, and then write about, I finally got to painting, and chose one which belongs to the Pop Art trend, it is one of the Andy Warhol’s Marilyn prints (1962). As you may know, Pop Art came up in 1950’s in response to the mass media and all the boom of technology, capitalism, fashion, and consumerism. In 1960` s Warhol started painting several images of celebrities, in which he used the silkscreen painting technique.
I like so much the daffy way in which he used colours. It’s totally out of the way we use to see how they used to be combined in paintings. They really give life and light to the person that was shoot (with the camera, of course). Since I’d always seen Marilyn in black and white, I think she looks great here. Actually, I've got the main image as a magnet on my fridge.
I had the great chance of visiting the MoMA in NY, and I could appreciate some of these paintings. These are damn wicked!
H2SO4...What for?

I’ve always had trouble with numbers, that’s why scientific subjects such as math, physics, and chemistry, have always been a bad karma for me. If I had to talk about the worst, I’m sure it’s chemistry. It pissed me off for four years, it really did, I mean it! I always did awful at it. Since the teacher and I hated each other, because I always told her that what she taught was totally useless, it was a daily battle against formulas, rules and senseless stuff. However, as it never was a big concern for me in terms of understanding the lessons, or doing any better, because I was NEVER INTERESTED IN IT, I never studied extra time, nevertheless, I couldn’t help letting myself down when receiving low grades, but it lasted just for a while.

RUMBLE FISH

Since I’m a very big fan of films, and I spend quite a lot of my time in front of the screen, I have to say that this is not an easy one; the way characters behaved lets us think a lot. That is why I really liked it.
I’ll let you know something about some characters for you to have an approach to the movie. The main characters are Rusty-James; played by Matt Dillon and, The Motorcycle Boy; played by Mickey Rourke. The first one is a 14 year old adolescent, who is very well known in his neighbourhood because of the rumbles and fights that he uses to start with the other gangs, and whose reputation is mainly based on his brother, The Motorcycle Boy; a very mysterious 17 year old boy, who was very respected in the place where he lived. He had a girlfriend named Cassandra, who was not that important in the movie, except for helping to make The Motorcycle Boy´s life as brave and challenging as it was. He had spent almost all his life on the street life, but lately he had been travelling. Rusty-James always dreamed of being like his brother, as adventurous and interesting as him. Both of them had a very unhappy life because of the way they had been raised. As soon as their mother left them when they were very little, their father became an alcoholic who did not even care about their children. So, there were no parents to support them on how they were doing with their lives. Apart from his brother’s return, one of the things that made Rusty-James happy and safe was having his friend Steve, a neat and tidy boy who always cared about R-J, and tried to make him be down-to earth, and Patty; his girlfriend, a very nice girl who really didn’t like the life that R-J had. She finally left him for his buddy BJ Smokey; played by Nicolas Cage, who betrayed him by being involved with his ex girl, after having stand by R.J in all the rumbles before.

Post correction
“News that I’m very interested on in the last few days is the one about the fight for the sale of contraceptive pills. I can’t accept that people who have nothing to do with our decisions want to prohibit us our rights. My uncle was in the last protest against this prohibition, and she was one of the persons who spoke in every media defending our rights. Now she is in the newspapers and in TV news files.”
I’d have written it this way:
"A piece of news that I’ve been very interested in is one about the struggle that many people have been involved in, to make the day after pill be sold. I can’t accept that people who have nothing to do with our decisions want to prohibit us our rights. Fortunately, my thought has been very well represented by my aunt, who was in the latest protest against this prohibition, and she was one of the people who spoke in the media defending our rights. Now she is in the newspapers and in TV news files.”

A BLOG RATER? ...take a look at this one.
As many of all this ways of on line communication, blogs are to express yourself, tell about your interests, what are you spending your time in, show points of view…WHATEVER! And then, get to know you more. That’s why; I think these should represent how the person really is in terms of his/her way of writing, the colours, the features chosen, etc. By this, I could tell that the blog: “I’m so weird…but I’m happy” by Javiera, is not the way she is, or at least, like I see her almost daily. But it has lots of good things to look at, beginning by Javy`s profile.
I think the design ought to be changed, as well as the colours in order to look more brightly and attractive.

I`d rather try another thing
When I was told that we had this for homework, and then watched the video, I wondered if Simon had played us a joke...I mean, what kind of learning english tool might this be? However while watching it over and over again, I realised that THERE ARE some learning tools, I found two indeed. The first one and the second; which both go together, are REPETITION by INDENTIFYING A SITUATION. I could identify these two while for example, when the girl was being robbed by those two men, the other girls started repeating: "I was roobed by two men" ..and again, and again. The same happens at school, when we do the daily routine all together, as soon as we start it, they already know what they have to say.
I think Japanese people have tried so many learning english methods, and they didn`t want to get to a weird thing, like a mixture between repeating phrases once and again, sing them along, and on top of that working out while doing all that, however, they had to do it...

Awareness is good, BUT ACTION IS BETTER

More than a piece of news, this is how I feel about a current issue that most Chileans are concerned about these days. The fact that giving out the "Day After" pill in the public system had been rejected. I just wonder, what`s wrong with these decision-makers`minds? No one should be able to take over us in the decision of giving birth or not. How is it possible than a reduced group of people, MEN MOSTLY, had decided this in order not to have more unexpected births?
This pill will be for sale. Unfortunatelly, only a group of people; which is not representative of the majority of the chileans, will be able to afford it. So what is it gonna happen with low income people who won`t have the money to buy this contraceptive method?...because it`s just like all the rest; faster and more efficient, but no more than that.
Why don`t politicians and authorities worry about how bad the public health system works? It`s unconceivable that people were assisted in the hallways because there`s not room enough, and also that a woman had had to give birth in a hospital`s toilet because she was told to wait for her turn.
Let`s reflect... I`m really ashamed of the these people and the decision they`ve made.

I`d wish it was Summertime

Have you noticed how beautiful Chile is? please, don`t think I`m being cheesy, because it`s true!, and we all know it...We can find the most beautiful landscapes of the desert in the North as well as all the lakes, volcanos, green areas and rain forests in the South, going through all the beaches along the coast. What I enjoy the most from Pichilemu are its wonderful beaches, which are huge and
well known for its enormeous waves that are surfed by many surfers (very logical...), men and women; most of them from different nationalities.

"The Commitments" ...movie and book review

As I told you in some posts ago, watching movies and reading books are things that I really enjoy doing in my spare time, and it`s even more interesting, but tricking at the same time, when a book has a movie version or viceversa, as in the case of “The Commitments” (written and based on the story of Roddy Doyle). I say it may be tricking because, in my opinion, movies always miss details of the story told in the book, or it`s not like you imagined it when reading it. Which is also good because it helps to develop the imagination, and then make the contrast.
In the case of “The Commitments”, both things told the story of this hard working class band from Dublin, Ireland, whose members were recruited by Jimmy Rabbitte; the manager, in order to play R&B songs. However, there was a big "break" at the end of the story; what it´s true is that the band was disolved, but while in the movie the members were all separated, in different occupations, what happened in the book, is that Jimmy tried to make them join to start playing again. That was kind of dissapointing when watching it.

That was kind of dissapointing when watching it.
One of the best parts of this story was when Jimmy set the requirements to join the band, he wanted members who had SOUL, what did he mean by this?...then they found it out. At the moment of reading, it was a lot of fun to imagine how thet carried out their first rehersals, and the gigs. It´s really interesting and funny, how a band goes through ups and downs, and how well the performances are through gig and gig. The same happened to me when I saw the movie "Almost Famous". There are very simmilar situations. Troubles between the manager and some members, the ego issue, the groupies issue, the fights between members, etc....is not easy to be a "music star", don´t u think?
Apart from recommending this movie, as well as the book, I´d like to highlight the language that it is used, which I liked learning it a lot. It´s cool when we read things with all kinds of language, especially the "everyday" one. I don´t like the idea to speak like a grammar book because I´ve never tried something different.
Watch this movie..you´ll laugh and have a good time.

...Two of my favourites, which are yours??
One of things that most relieves us of problems, bad days, stressful times, etc is to listen to good music, don´t you think? Or at least, what we consider is good for ourselves. No matter what I´m doing or how I´m feeling, and although I´m not a musician, I can´t picture a moment of my life without any kind of music.
I´ll give you some clues for you to guess about what I like the most...Both are from the UK but one is from Ireland and he other from England, both are composed my women mostly, one is a group and the other is just a female singer, and both play the nicest songs ever. Did u guess? maybe yes.

The first one is The Corrs, an Irish band composed by Andrea, Sharon, Caroline Corr and his brother Jim. They play a mixture between traditional Irish music, celthic and contemporary rock. It´s acoustic sounds are the best. In my opinion, the unplugged performance rocks!!

And the other one is Corinne Bailey Rae, an English lady who is in her late twenties, and whose R&B sounds have captivated a large audience. Eveytime I´m home alone is the perfect time to listen to her and sing pretending my voice is just like hers, also when my best friend comes home, her songs are the best to cheer our talks...I´d say this is music for chilling out, resting, havin fun and fallin in love...

A USEFUL WAY TO PRACTICE ENGLISH! Take a look at this..
In times like these where almost all what we need for our everyday life is on the web, and everybody from the whole world is on line, it`s really necessary that all people could find material realted to their occupations. Easy to work on, attractive, complete, and reliable websites are the ones that we all need to support our learning or the teaching performance. So, in this case what could be more useful for teachers than a good website that provides most of what they need to carry out a lesson, or maybe what learners (not beginners) need to practice what they`ve learned?...
That`s why I mark the BBC Learning English website with a nice, big, and wonderful 7! I haven`t found such a good webpage for students and for Teachers of English as well before, It`s not necessary to sit in front of the computer for hours to learn something. There are all kinds of activities and things to do. There are long and also short listenings and readings, and some sections where you acn check your pronunciation. It`s such an easy, modern and efficient way to help yourself.
I`d like to recommend, the link "Vocabulary and Grammar", and then go to the "How to..." section. You`re gonna find phrases and expressions for all kinds of situations, as you can imagine that helps a lot for acquiring a natural (kind of, but with effort you can achieve it) way of communiacting, and you can also improve your vocabulary of course.
See also the phrasal verbs section and have fun with the story, where the plots are aminly based on phrasal verbs.

Let´s let them be THINKIN´HEADS!!

Didn´t Mr. Robinson´s talk remind you of those days at school when you tried to give ideas and the teachers just ignored you? At least for me, it was like that...
However, all what he said it was true, and what he talked about was a big concerning issue, I just couldn´t help laughing at his style...he was really funny.
Anyway...
It´s absolutely true that schools make students do what they have planned for them to do..and usually they definetely do not accept when they try to change part of the class or turn it into something more fun, or when they question what they say. Why don´t teacher ask students what they would like to learn about, or what kind of topics they would like to discuss about? I´m sure that children would support with ideas that would make the lesson DEATHLY!
This man invites us to reflect and do something for our future performance. He is a really thinkin´head...let´s be like him, and let´s wellcome our students thought to encourage their creativity and critical thinkin´.

JUST CLICK ON THAT!!
We all know that internet offers a HUGE! variety of websites for us to click on, we can find everything there, don´t you think? We need to sit in front of our computers and start surfing the web and clicking on what calls our attention. However, I bet you that you`ve been there, sat on you chair, not knowing where to start or what to look at in all of those millions of pages.
I remember that long time ago, I was searching on I don`t remember what and I found http://www.about.com/ . I`ve been discovering it little by little and I`ve realized that has everything that someone might be looking for...from a granny who needs some advice about gardening, to a teacher or maybe parents that are interesting in teen issues. It`s is pretty good!...very helpful to start your research, because it doesn`t provide much info about what you maybe are looking for.
Apart from the one above, I can tell you that there`s another one that it`s being very interesting for me by now...
Few years ago, a friend of mine and his buddies; who are all into music, radio, journalism, films, and literature, founded http://www.paniko.cl/ (he told me to click on that) It provides info about all what is happening in terms of concerts, movie releases, movie reviews, book reviews, etc. Its stuff also comments on current issues that might be interesting for young people, and the readers can give feedback about them by posting.
Since the first time I saw this page, I`ve been informed about new chilean music, writers that I didn`t know, and websites related to this as well.

If you wanna have fun and new topics to talk about...just click on that!

What we should be keeping eyes on...

We all know that technology can be either a great and helpful tool for young people, or a very dangerous "sub world" for them as well. Nowadays, children have access to everything on the web, there are ways to rate what they are expected to look at according to their age, however, it is reallly hard to set limits for them not to see inappropriate material. Even though there are websites aimed for children, most of them create profiles in webpages for older users.
What if we ask about parent`s role...
Even though they know that there are many benefits in the internet use, they don`t want to know about the dangers that it carries. Therefore, if they let their children go online without supervision, they need to know about the risks their children are running.

Tell me what you read...

Even though we haven´t been told to write about another topic, I´d like to start with the kick off to share thoughts about books. Don´t u think it´s a good idea?
I know it is hard to keep reading something of our own interest, apart from all that we have to read for our subjects especially one book called ¨The Commitments¨ (joke for Simon) but we should make an effort, it is not that hard.
Time ago I started reading ¨The Power of Play¨ by Dr. David Elkins. It´s is such a good that talks about the importance of play time in children who, nowadays, live under many pressures. The author reassures, through examples of daily situations, and different kinds of games; where children can develop their skills, that all what they do during play time, would help them in their academic and social skills, and therefore succeed in them. This is because they learn about respect and cooperation, as well as negotiation of rules and taking turns, and many other things. It even shows how parents make desicions for the best of thier children, and how they are influenced by their peers in order to make good ones.
I strongly recommend this book cause it is very easy to read, it also explain situations that you can feel familiar with, and also gives plenty of good ideas for us, as future teachers, to carry out. Let´s be aware that the greatest student´s input come from outside of the classroom, and let´s invite parents to channel play time into a meaningful thing.

Getting even closer to hi-tech
As most of you already know, during our summer, I had the chance to spend some time in the US. Everything was great! from meeting great people and visiting beautiful places, to enjoying the cold weather. And of course...one of the things I could purchase related to technology.
I´ve never been so close to all this technological devices. The ones I´ve got, it´s because I need them. However, some things started to change while windowshopping an "apple" store. I had already heard about the "IPods", but didn´t know much about all their functions and the variety of them.
Well, as you can imagine. After making up my mind, I made a good desicion (think so..) and finally bought one. It´s an Ipod nano, and it´s really fascinating...I can play games, store a lot of music and listen to it of course (while I go jogging! believe me! hahaha), watch videos, and see photos as well.
Even though I´d never thought about getting one of those things, I´ve realized that tech is such a good thing and I haven´t had a funny toy like my Ipod since I was a child.
